I’m Officially Over Winter

by Jodifur on January 21, 2014

In case you haven’t heard we got a lot of snow.  So much snow, Doug’s office closed.  My office was open, so while Doug (and Michael, who was off school anyway) were sound asleep, I went to work.  I was all of 10 people in the office, because the rest of the office worked from home.  It was fine, because I got in so early I left by noon, and plan to work from home tomorrow.  Where schools have already closed and Doug’s office will probably close, but yes, mine will be open.

DC is dumb in the snow.  So, so dumb.  We drove home from my parents beach house on Monday and while they were calling for the snow to start around 9 am it was 3 pm and they were “pre-treating the roads.”  With salt.  At 2 pm.  In anticipation of a 9 am snow storm.  Um, what?  That makes absolutely no sense.  No wonder the roads are always undriveable.

I can’t even figure out how much snow we have.  Maybe 6 inches.  6 inches of snow and the whole town shuts down.  For days.  We will be lucky if these kids will be back in school by Friday.  At the rate we are going these children are going to be in school until July.  I’m glad I’ve paid for camp for Michael for June already.  I hope I can get my money back.

And guess what else?  It is going to be -15 with the wind chill tomorrow.  PERFECT SLEDDING WEATHER HOORAY.

Did I mention my best friend is in Disney World?  I’m not jealous AT ALL.

Here, here! I agree. I’m dreading heading out in the windy sunshine for sledding while I nurse a massive head cold and have a totally unproductive week.

I hear you…Noelle was off a half day on Friday, Monday for MLK, Tuesday already for teacher in-service day and now today for snow. We are in NW Baltimore county so got closer to 10 inches but truly, once out of the neighborhoods the roads were fine…though we didn’t see a plow until 11:30 this morning. We tried sledding yesterday and that was a giant fail. Both mine and my husband’s work places are open so we get to trade off blowing our vacation time to cover school closings. Whee! Family vacations are overrated anyway…

We got 2 in. in Richmond. We were out for MLK Day on Monday, school’s been out ever since. Monday is teacher workday. High school exams cancelled. For 2 in. of snow. It’s actually for the ice, because it’s so cold. I think they’re making the right call, roads are horrible in neighborhoods. But it’s astounding what 2 in. of snow and some cold temps can do to a city.
