I think everyone should have at least one best friend. A person you could turn to for anything. A Meredith to your Christina.
My person texted me at 8:00 Saturday morning and said “want to come over Sunday night for a last hurrah before the power goes out?” My response, “what kind of wine goes with that?”
It is amazing to have a friend who has been there through everything with you. She has seen me through bad boyfriends, bad hair, and bad jeans. She tells me when to shut up and when to calm down. She can drive me crazy and piss me off, but she also knows me better than anyone else, sometimes even better than Doug.
A few Saturday nights ago I sent her a text that said something like “Doug and I had a stupid fight and now we aren’t speaking.” Within five seconds my phone rang. “Stop being an idiot and go talk to your husband.” “But I’m right and he’s wrong.” “Who cares, go pour him a glass of wine and go talk to him.” “Your right but I’m still not going to do it.”
2 years ago when the power went out during snowmagedon we moved into her house. She had 2 year old twins and didn’t even care that me, my husband, my 5 year old and our dog invaded her house. She told me to marry my husband before we were even dating. I love her children as if they were my own, and Michael would like to adopt them as his surrogate brother and sister.
We spent our teenage years watching General Hospital and Days of Our Lives on the phone with each other. We spent our young adult years in different cities, on the phone with each other. We now live 5 minutes apart, and text.
I can’t imagine what my life would be like without my best friend.
Stay safe east coast. I imagine this will be my last post for a while, as I kind of expect to lose power any minute now.
