6 Years

Faith.

This was the year of Faith.  Faith that you wouldn't fall apart in Kindergarten.  Faith that you would, are, and always will be okay.  Faith that Daddy and I will always make the right choices, even if we don't always agree with what those choices are.

This was the year that you have grown into this amazing young man.  You are smart, inquisitive, curious, argumentative, wonderful, amazing, and oh, so bright.  The other day you had a whole conversation with your father about Plato, the Greek philosopher.  You soak in knowledge from everywhere you go and bring it up and the strangest times.  It is amazing the things you come up with and remember and what to discuss.

Right now you are obsessed with Egypt.  So much so that when we were in New York we went to the King Tut exhibit.  You love your Egypt Playmobile set.  Egypt is right up there with Star Wars and Mario Brothers as your favorite things.  And pillow pets.

You can read.  You do math better than I can.  Your are thriving in Kindergarten and though things are not perfect and there have been bumps and hills and valleys I know that you will be okay.

I frequently say our biggest struggle is that you are not an "in the box" kid.  You think outside of the box and you like to ask why a lot.  But in the end, the end being when you are all grown up, you are going to be the most amazing grown up.  You are going to create, invent, discover, or make something the world has never seen before.  You have the most amazing mind and I love watching it work.

Being your mom has been the greatest privilege I have ever known.  Happy 6th Birthday.

I love you.

Hey guess what?  Your going to Disney World on Thursday.

That was awfully, awfully sweet.
Happy birthday, Michael. And my sympathies to you, J, on your apparent condemnation to Disney.

Happy birthday to Michael…and good luck with Disney. I may be in the minority, but I do not think it is the greatest place on Earth.

It’s been a great year!!
Did you tell him about Disney yet? I had so much fun telling Owen the morning we left. The look on his face was worth all the stress waiting.

What a lovely post! I had tears filling my eyes. He can achieve great things in life, when he’s the amazing grown up he’s shaping up to be. So what if he is not an “in the box” kid? They are the kids that go far in life. It doesn’t stop them from doing whatever they want if they set their heart and mind to it. I can’t wait to read all about how you told him you and him were going to Disney and his reaction, and how it was.

I’m a little late on reading this post, but glad I finally got to it. Holy crap, it made me cry. Michael is one lucky kid, and not just because he got to go to Disney.
