This summer seems like one endless loop of heat. It started in May and has never stopped. One day melts into the next and it is all 100 degrees, 100 percent humidity with maybe a chance of a late afternoon thunderstorm. Rinse, repeat. Too hot to go outside. Too hot to sleep. Too hot to do anything but sit on the couch and complain about the heat. It is so pedantic to complain about the weather but we are all walking around saying "hot enough for you?" and "and you thought the snow was bad?" I spent 10 minutes yesterday thinking about running a 5k in New York City in August. I can't because it is full, but the thought it was going to be 100 degrees did also cross my mind.
Yes, I actually considered doing the BlogHer 5k. Doug hysterically laughed at me. Because he was the one who told me when I started couch25k I would run a 5k. And I was like no, no, no I won't. Because this is just about teaching me how to run. I don't want to actually run a 5k. Except yesterday I kind of thought about it. And he was all "told ya." But alas, it was not meant to be. I'm not sure I'm sorry about that. But he is convinced I will actually some day soon, run a 5k. And then a 10k. He is out of his mind.
So this is my life right now. Complaining about the heat and complaining about running. It is not so interesting. Except for, you know, the other stuff.
****Anybody notice anything new around here? Anything at all?

Nice shoe. And you can totally run a 5k. And a 10k. And yes, it is, has been, and will be, too damn hot around here to do ANY of that. I get depressed whenever I look at the 10-day weather forecast. Yet I still keep looking, hoping it will be different. Which I think is the definition of insanity.
Hey, a shoe!
I actually signed up for that 5k in NY. Ugh, I’m not looking forward to the heat for that one! But I will probably just walk the whole way anyway. Wish you could walk a bit with me.
I don’t mind the heat. I will take it over the snow and cold we had any day.
I agree with Doug, its only a matter of time before you do a 10k!
I like the shoe.
I signed up for a 5k Mud Run in Pasadena next month and it’s been so insanely hot here (but it’s a DRY heat. Heh.) that I haven’t been able to train. Oddly, I just don’t feel like running when it’s 105 degrees. Go figure.
I bet you run a 5K sooner rather than later. Good luck!
I see BlogHer Ads, is that new?
I considered doing the 5K, but wanted to do Central Park, which was full. The thought of running through the city on cement did not appeal to me (I am not really a runner and I totally baby my plantar fasciitis prone foot on asphalt or indoor tracks.) Ultimately, I decided to be lazy (I also did not relish the thought of packing running gear and then having to USE it in the HEAT of NYC in AUGUST)
Oh, and Manoj totally laughed at me when I mentioned the 5K.
I had a very similar chat with our CLO about the weather. He was adamant that the snow was SO MUCH WORSE. But then, our 3 minute walk from the parking garage to our building made us both completely drenched and disgusting. At 9am.
How about doing a 5K around Thanksgiving? They always have Turkey Trots or some such nonsense around the DC area. I’ve heard they are pretty fun AND you can justify eating your weight in turkey and gravy later. Win Win!
My theory on hot vs. cold: You can always put on more clothes, but there comes a point when you can’t take anything else off. Therefore, the heat is worse. (But, really, wind is the worst of all. I hate wind.)
If you want company for a 5K, let me know. Despite having run for years and completed a half marathon, I am still pretty slow. (Slower than you, if I remember your tweets correctly.)
The said thing is, people say “you can walk the 5K!” and I’m still making excuses. I can be super supportive from the sidelines though. Really!
This is why I try to never complain about snow, because, I hate heat. And we’ve got it in spades. We are currently having a thunder storm and it’s still 97.

You can run the 5k. I’ve done it, and I am a terrible runner, and that’s if you even count what I do as “running”. It’s more like walking with a bounce.
I don’t even want to think about walking in NYC in the heat. Forget about running.
