I don't like the Olympics. I just don't. Okay, actually, I have nothing against the Olympics but the coverage is so g-ddamn annoying. The other night I turned it on and they were showing bears. Bears. Are bears an Olympic sport? It is like 5 minutes of Olympic coverage for 20 minutes of Bob Costas. And bears.
But 2 nights ago there was nothing else on and the Olympics were all a twitter and I got sucked into snowboard cross. First of all, this is a sport? Since when? And an Olympic sport? And then I stayed up until midnight to find out if the Chinese married ice skaters who have been trying for 18 years to win a gold medal won. 18 YEARS. 18 YEARS. I know, because Bob Costas told me, every 5 minutes.
Doug, who also doesn't get into all the Olympic hoopla was like, what the hell are you doing? And I'm like, "SNOWBOARD CROSS AND BEARS AND 18 YEARS. And Canada has never won a Gold at home and they just did and it was a moment and I may have shed a tear. And I'm not Canadian. And I have no idea what the Gold was for. But it was lovely." And he rolled his eyes. But he should shut up because he still cries at the miracle on ice hockey game that he will watch voluntarily on ESPN classic whenever it is on. Or, just the movie can make him cry. (Newsflash, they win.)
So last night I turned the Olympics on, voluntarily, not even under duress, to find out if whatsherface who lost the female snowboard cross last Olympics won this time. (Not that I watched a minute of the last winter Olympics or even for that matter, know where they were.) I think it's time to admit I'M ALL IN. I'M POT COMMITTED. FINE, ALL YOU OLYMPIC PEOPLE, YOU WIN. But I refuse to care about the summer Olympics. That is my line in the sand. Because I still need one. Apparently.

What’s next?? You on FB??
I wish you were on Facebook.
I usually watch some of the Olympics, but the luger’s death SERIOUSLY turned me off. As in, he lost his life for this shit? As it was, I was already starting lose love for the whole thing anyway after Michael Phelps turned out to be just a pot-smoking frat boy who could swim really, really FAST.
I still love gymnastics, though and doubt I will stop watching that.
I never know who the people are until google them. No, the Summer Olympics are even BETTER….you’ll see! LOL!
I am such a softie for the Olympics.
i used to be all into the olympics when i was a kid. now? i have trouble caring too. i recorded the opening ceremonies and still haven’t watched it. haven’t watched any of the events. i think if i could pick what sport i was going to watch, it might be better. like having a set of channels events, each channel at a specific site or sport. something like that. plus, less talking by the announcers. guess what guys, i’m watching it on tv. i don’t need radio color announcer style commentary. I CAN SEE WHAT THEY’RE WEARING!
The Winter Olympics are WAY better than summer. The other day I found myself watching curling, just because it’s the Olympics! Once every four years! Must watch!
I like the Olympics. I like that I can DVR it and skip all of that bears and Costas and yadda yadda yadda. Last night, during the Men’s short, as soon as anyone fell down, I hit the fast forward button. Heartless, I am.
My challenge to you is to watch the swimming during the summer Olympics and try not to become addicted.
HaHa, that’s too funny!! I am Canadian and well, I have the same opinion!! I hopoe they didn’t pay to much with their TV placement bid. Like the first day when they had to cancel all the downhill skiing because the snow was too slushy…..well instead of putting another sport in it’s place they moderated the whole day……moderate what you ask (well, you probably aren’t asking)their thoughts…ALL DAY!! We Canadian’s sure like to talk…lol, anyway, I hope that you are starting to enjoy actual events!!

Welcome to the club! Both hubby and I are up until at least midnight every stupid night of the Olympics! We love it!
Yeah, I am not into them this year either. But I do like summer better. I actually thought I had recorded a bunch of lifetime movies to watch to get me through but I don’t know what happened to them.
I never get that into them, either. I mean, I want to, you know, but then I watch and I want to gouge out my eyes. I want to watch one event at a time. How hard is that? How hard is it to watch all of the figure skating pairs, or whatever and then all of the snowboard cross and then all of the speed skating. It’s the flipping back and forth that I don’t care about. Because you know what, cross country is boring. There, I said it. I don’t want to watch it in between every skater. I just want to watch what I care about and none of the other crap. Which is, apparently, impossible. I don’t understand it, because it seems simple enough to me, but whatever. I’m out. All out. What Olympics? Really, are there games that are played every four years? Who knew?
I want to care about the Olympics as I am forced to watch them every night, but I have yet to really give a rat’s butt.
Oh, and Doug is not alone. The “Miracle on Ice” (real or movie) is right up there with Rudy and Brian’s Song for inducing male tears. I, however, am married to someone who regularly gets choked up over American Idol so consider yourself lucky.
oh come on! it is terrific. it is the one time when everyone from anywhere can qualify to compete and can win! it isn’t rigged! and it isn’t all usa all the time!
the olympics renews my faith in humanity. thank GOD for it.
I am an addict for WInter Olympics who sometimes gets sucked into the Summer drama because of swimming and gymnastics. But winter? I love them.
Am laughing so. hard.
I have resisted to this point and am trying to STAY! STRONG! I fear I’ll cave too. Let me know what events I should give in for, ok?
HAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! That was the FUNNIEST thing I’ve read in a LONG time. Seriously though, I get sucked in to crap all the time and then I’m P’d b/c it’s 1am and my kids will be up in 5 hours.
yeah…I’m paying far more attention than I ever intended to. It’s kind of difficult not to pay attention, being in the host city, but surprising easy to fall behind. enjoy
I have been watching with one eye and tweeting/blogging/posting/FBing with the other. I can’t ski or snowboard or ice skate. I say it is because of the numerous knee surgeries I have had to correct basketball/softball and motorcycle wreck injuries but really it’s because I don’t have that kind of balance or coordination. There is something about watching athletes doing things I’ll never do… OMG got to go, womens ski cross is on! LOL!
