Jam Packed Action Packed Halloween Weekend

by Jodifur on November 2, 2009

Wow, um how many Halloween activities can one 4 year old have?  Between a party at school, trick or treating, OT, swimming, and Disney on Ice** thrown in for good measure, we were on the go all weekend.

I spent 3 hours at the school on Friday, and let's just say I didn't see what they are seeing.  The school and I are at an impasse.  Over the next two weeks we will have two private evaluators going in and then decisions will be made on that front.

But Michael seemed to enjoy his school's Halloween party and parade, and that is the most important thing.

But, on to happier stuff.  Michael was Spiderman, again, which was funny, since we bought a new
house and he changed schools, all so he could wear the same $10 Target
costume again.

Friday night Doug and Michael carved pumpkins.  Doug had a brilliant idea of hey, we have a backyard with a table-let's carve the pumpkin out there!  No mess!  I love this man!

And then we ate pumpkin seeds, the beer was for the grown ups, don't worry.

On Saturday we drove to Baltimore to see Disney on Ice**, and Michael loved the show.  As an aside, I have to say the staff at the 1st Mariner Arena is amazing.  I had parked at a meter and needed to feed it halfway through the show and even though the the arena has a no re-entry policy they found a supervisor who let me back in and could not have been nicer to me in what was essentially, MY FAULT.

But any way, Disney on ice was adorable.  And Michael had a great time.

And me, well, I'm a Disney fanatic.  So it was right up my alley.  I rocked out to the music from Enchanted and Doug laughed at me.  It was perfect.

This kid sat perfectly still for the 90 minute show.  After a huge bag of cotton candy.  ADHD my ass.

And of course, Saturday night was trick or treating.  And since we had never lived here before, we had no idea what to expect on Halloween, and this neighborhood has a ton of kids.  I bought a huge Costco bag of candy.  Doug had to talk me down from two bags.  And, I have 99% of the bag left.  We got 7 kids.

At 6:45 Michael was dressed in his spider-man costume bouncing up and down like a mexican jumping bean saying, can I go trick or treating now?  And me saying, but I just don't see any kids?  Finally, I let him go.

He trick or treated for about an hour and insisted Doug stand at the bottom of the driveway and he go up to the door by himself.  And then after about an hour he wanted to go home and eat candy.  And for some reason I was surprised when he wouldn't go to sleep until 10 pm on Saturday night.

Sunday morning he woke up with a cough and and we spent the rainy day lounging around on the couch and watching way too much tv.

**The Disney on Ice tickets were provided to me by Mom Central as part of their Field Activator program.

It sounds like you had quite the weekend! I’m sorry they are trying to label your son, and I hope the evaluators have a better insight.
He looked adorable as spider man! :)

Wow look at those Spidey-muscles! ;-) It sounds like you had a really great weekend.
It seems there’s no wiggle room nowadays for kids. My nephew had a really hard year when he was 4. That was the year my sister moved to a different city so he had to adjust to all the same things as Michael – new school, daycare, friends, house, etc. I remember that year so well because I helped my sister out by taking care of my nephew a lot. I got a big chunk of the “I hate you” attitude and aggression that he was throwing around. He didn’t fit into his first daycare and had to be moved as they felt he was unmanageable. It got better. It just took quite a few months. I know that the school feels he has other issues and I suppose it’s possible. It’s also possible that it’s just his adjustment period. I hope those evaluators help you figure it out.
PS. I’m a huge Disney fan too.

Glad that you had a good Halloween in your new neighborhood. I am also glad that you didn’t “notice” the kind of behavior your preschool was referring to. Good for you that there will be two separate private observers, that is really smart.
PS – I love Disney also :)
