Michael has preschool orientation today. Can someone explain this to me? Does he need a bus schedule? To find his locker? It is the same place he had camp for goodness sake. With the same teacher, in the same classroom. But off we go to orientation. And I had to take off of work, because parents are required.
It's better than last year, at his old preschool, when they had transition week. And I just found out that that preschool, which we decided to switch from, pushed their start date back two weeks. Until after Labor Day. I would be so pissed if Michael was still there. I always said that that school was not friendly to working parents but that is crazy. Two weeks. What are parents supposed to do for care for two weeks? When we switched in June the start date was published as next week, I wonder when they made that change? How much time parents had to make arrangements?
That might have pissed me off more than when they broke my kids hand. Ok, maybe not. But how can you say you follow the public school calendar, and then, not? By two weeks.
But it really doesn't matter, because Michael and I are off to be orientated at his new school. The one he just spent three months at.

Don’t get lost in the corridors!
Logan’s preschool had an open house. It wasn’t bad, you didn’t have to go if you didn’t want to but you were able to go ahead and bring all the school supplies if you had purchased them already. I think that’s a better method than an orientation.
Maybe you’ll learn something new…
That was totally a post.
I would be pissed about the beginning of the year being pushed back too.
LOL, Nicky’s new school had an orientation, with an assessment, and then an open house too! And he’s in PK3 right now. It was a new school this year for him, so that’s ok. But this whole taking work off thing is getting a bit old.
Now we have our first PTO meeting this Thursday night. I’m sending Tom without me since I have class myself. Oh for the days when I just had to work 8 hours and didn’t have grad school at night.
One more year. Just one more!
it all sounds pretty unnecessary. and silly.
Yea, that is sort of strange. Kaylie was supposed to start school tomorrow, but it got changed to Monday (something about being a private school and having longer days than the public school). If I was working, I’d be annoyed. But, since I’m not, it’s okay. I totally agree with you though, it is NOT geared toward working parents. At all. I’ve worked for all but maybe a year of her 8 years of life and I totally agree with you.
Our old daycare had (what I believed to be) random closings. One week at the end of August. Week between Xmas and New Year’s. Good Friday. I complained. Then we left and went to a daycare that is open 6 am – midnight, 365 days/year.
But we’re getting ready to start kindergarten, where they have A LOT of days off. At least one/month.
