My Toaster
I spent all day Thursday and Friday twittering about how we were not going to get this house I fell in love with. How I was in a buyers market and I found myself in a bidding war on a house that I put a contract on that my husband had not seen. You reap what you sow I guess.
As my father put it when I tried to explain to him where it was and failed, "you put a contract on a house and you don't know where it is, you can't afford it, and Doug hasn't seen it. Great idea."
I'm shocked I even have any twitter followers left. I could not have been more self involved or annoying this week. Oh woe is me I have to buy a house and some people can't afford to eat. I'd stop following me also.
On Friday afternoon I took Michael to see Up, whose life lesson was, "it's only a house after all." My mom just looked at me. And let's take a minute and talk about my mom, without whom I would not have survived this week. Doug was away and I was literally chewing off my arm. I was eating nothing, beating the crap out of my elliptical, and drinking way too much wine. My mom took me out to dinner every night, took my every 5 minute panicked phone call, and generally stopped me from going insane. Or maybe I should say too insane.
Doug took the red eye back from California Friday night and got home at 6 am. At 9 am he saw the house. At 9:15 he got it. This was it, this was the house. At 10 am we heard there were 3 contracts on the property and we upped our bid.
On Saturday at 2, we got the house. WE GOT THE HOUSE. Doug was sleeping off his flight when the realtor called. Twitter and my parents found out first. Seemed to fit actually.
I'm doing my best to help the economy.
We move the week before BlogHer. I thought for a while I wasn't going, but I am.
I think it is going to make very nice bread.
The kitchen is what sold it for me. I wanted to get a sleeping bag and sleep in the kitchen. These pictures don't do it justice, you will just have to trust me. (Ignore the pink thing, they had just refinished the floor.)
(If you don't get the toaster reference, read this.)

So which side of the Potomac did you end up on?

Nice! I can't wait to see it in real life.
(So did you figure out where it is yet? Can you tell me?)

You know it when a house speaks to you. Good for you. And we're all allowed to be a little self involved now and then. Losing a dream house would be crushing.

Congratulations! We're still not getting much traffic on ours. Thinking about lowering the price this week if nothing comes in.
So happy for you guys! The pictures are amazing!

Delurking to say that that last picture sold me. Cabinets that wrap around a corner? So cool!

Awesome! I love the kitchen curve there. Congratulations on getting the house!
Now if you can just survive your buyers.

Congratulations!! I've never been through house-buying stress, but it doesn't sound fun. Glad that part's over for you and now you can get on with the fun stuff like fighting over paint colors.

Looks like a beautiful house. And good for you, for sticking with a tough and emotional situation. Good did prevail in this one. Yeah!
