Well that was all kinds of depressing. The day got remarkably better from there. Michael's doctors appointment went well, except for the screaming, "I want to go home" every 5 seconds. All I wanted to say was, "so do I buddy, so do I. Trust me."
His hand is healing well. The doctor predicts there will be no long term damage and his only concern is infection and making sure the nail grows in ok. Michael will need to be followed for two years. He is cleared to go back to school. He is cleared to run. He is cleared for all normal 3 year old activities except swimming. He can even go to a birthday party that has a moon bounce. I'm not so sure how I feel about that one. The doctor said to me, "the only way this hand will get re-injured again is if another cubby falls on it." I was like, "please, don't even say that out loud."
As for the school, we have a meeting set up for with them on Wednesday. I really have no other option but to send him back. There is no where else to put him. But they need to assure me he is safe. And when I called the director and said I wanted to have a meeting she seemed less than thrilled by that idea. But you know what, tough cookies. You broke my kid. You can sit down and meet with me for an hour.
So that is where we are. Many thanks go out to my friend Devra who had an hour phone conversation with me and gave me great advice about how to talk to Michael about what happened to him. And generally just calmed me down. Which means she is a saint.
And don't forget, I'm giving away tickets to the circus!

Can one Jew saint another Jew? LOL
I’m happy to have helped. while motherhood isn’t always wonderful, you are a wonderful mother even when times are scary and stressful. Micheal is well-loved.
And so are you. : )
xxoo,
Devra
You should definitely feel ok having a meeting with them. Actually, THEY should have initiated that to make you feel good about going back there. Most likely it was just one of those things that happens, but they should be telling you what they SHOULD have done to prevent it and now what they are doing to prevent these things from happening in the future.
Poor little guy, I hope he makes a speedy recovery.
I’ve so been there. My daughter’s injury was not serious, but I can relate to how frustrating it can be, especially when they seem reluctant to talk about it. I hope all goes well!
Wow, his hand will have to be watched for two years. Sounds like the doctor is trying to cover all the bases. I hope and pray Michael will heal perfectly and quickly!
