I like to think that I've handled getting sick ok. Maybe even better than ok. One might say I've handled it with grace and dignity and better than I ever would have believed I would have. I didn't crawl under the covers and never come out. I didn't cry or throw things. My motto is "it is what it is. Put one foot in front of the other. Breath." Or, live in denial, whatever works.
And besides one whiny post, I've done ok there. Denial is a very nice place to live.
I went to the doctor last week for a monthly Lupus check up and all was happy, happy grand, grand. Meds are good, blood work is stable. Minimal exhaustion, minimal pain. Managing well. Doctor HIGHLY RECOMMENDED sun protection clothing for our upcoming trip because this whole nonsense started when I passed out in the sun last summer and Lupus makes you sun sensitive. I nodded and moseyed along. And promptly forgot about it.
And then Wednesday night I thought about packing. And in order to procrastinate from packing I googled sun protection clothing. Man this stuff in expensive. And ugly. And even more expensive due to the fact that none of it is available in stores and I had to pay a million dollars to overnight it to me and couldn't I just bag it? Wear sunscreen, and jeans?
So I did what any good blogger would do. I whined, on twitter. And two very smart women reminded me that this is MY HEALTH we are talking about. So I'll wear ugly million dollar clothing. It's Disney. The land of the cheesy.
And while Doug made fun of the clothing choices I shot him a look to remind him that THIS IS NOT FUNNY AND I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS and he felt terrible because I have been handling all of this so well. But there are lines. And being forced to wear ugly clothing is my line.
And a hat. Man I look bad in hats. I can't pull off hats. I just look ridiculous. But the hat I bought is damn cute.
I think we are almost ready. I may really just need to start packing now. Especially since we leave tomorrow.

Bravo! Glad you took the advice and ran with it, even picking up that adorable lobster hat. I love hats and always wear them out in the sun so that I don’t end up looking like a wrinkled mess years from now. You’ll be happy you did too! Hope you’ll post some pics of you in your new sun gear. Bet it won’t look quite as horrifying as you are imagining it to be
Enjoy the trip!
That hat IS cute!
I am determined to find a good hat this year to wear consistently – I avoid the sun like crazy and use sunscreen, but it would be nice to have a hat for extra protection. we have skin cancer in my family and my own sister has had several spots removed from her face – and she is just 33!
I could do with that clothing. I wear factor 50 plus sunscreen and so do my children. We’re all fair-skinned, British, and doomed. I’m proud of the fact that my children have had minimal sunburns due to excessive application of sunscreen. I use the word “slather” alot in the summer to refer to my application of sunscreen.
The hat IS cute! And, I’m guessing that the clothing will be cuter in person and on you than it looked on the screen. Besides, you’re going on a DISNEY CRUISE, so who cares??!!!
Very cute hat. Have fun on your trip and I’m sure nobody will even notice the clothing….
it’s a cute hat – you’d fit right in vacationing in New England – HINT HINT
Ah!! The hat is so cute and I KNOW you will rock it along with the new-fangled sun-screen clothes!! I am so glad your health comes first because while I have no idea how badly lupus is inflamed (??) by the sun, much better to be safe than sorry, especially on a great vacation!!
Very cute hat! You will fit right in at WDW.
