What Is There To Do At The Beach On A Cold Winter’s Day?

by Jodifur on January 22, 2009

We had a lovely long weekend. Even though it was cold and snowy, the beach yielded itself to a ton of indoor activities. We took Michael bumper bowling for the first time ever, and he had a blast.
What could possibly be cooler than bowling shoes?

Even with all the instruction in the world, he still insisted on kicking the bowling ball down the lane, which resulted in much laughing from everyone around us.

And lying down to watch the very, very, very slow descent to the pins.

And I have to be honest, I suck at bowling. Which is ironic, since my father wanted to be a professional bowler. And both my parents bowled in leagues for years and are fabulous bowlers. I even went to BOWLING SCHOOL when I was little. Which really was just something you could do with your small child when you bowled but still, I should be good at it, it's in my genes.
Bumper bowling on the other hand, I rocked at. Check out the score!

And then we played underwater themed indoor mini golf. Which I also happen to suck at.

But guess who got a hole in one and a free game of golf?

Yep, me. Totally rockin' the kids games.

I totally suck at Mini golf and Bowling. I also hate it when people try to teach me how to play. I would not have done well at bowling school.

What cracks me up about bowling with kids is how the game gets S O S L O W!

Mini golf! Awesome. I wonder when my almost-three-year-old will be ready to try that out.
We live in Florida, the Land of Mini Golf.

So fun. I love mini golf! I bet Michael had fun.
And way to go on the bowling score. I don’t think I’ve ever broken 100, even with bumpers.

Looks like you had a good time!
Sounds like you should have Michael play soccer!

Funny things:
1. When I was a kid my grandmother ran the bowling alley in the Twinbrook shopping center. I spent HOURS there before the age of 7.
2. My father was a league bowler from childhood.
3. My mother couldn’t bowl.
4. I took bowling in college for one of my PE credits, and spent a fair amount of time hanging out in the school lanes.
5. I still suck at it. Short arms, or tiny hands, or something.
Love me some mini golf, though. Congrats on the hole in one!

A bunch of things:
1. My grandmother ran the bowling alley in Twinbrook when I was a kid. I spent hours and hours there before the age of 7.
2. My father was a league bowler. My mother was a lousy bowler.
3. I inherited my mother’s genes.
4. I took bowling in college for one of my PE credits.
5. I still suck at it.
I love me some minigolf, though. Congrats on the hole in one!

Looks like you guys had a blast. Too fun! I also am horrible at both bowling and golf…even miniature golf and even bowling with the bumpers up. It’s embarassing.

aaaaand I don’t know why that happened. Typepad is having some issues. So, bonus, you get two versions of the same idea!
gah. Sorry.

How fun. We’ll have to take Nicky bowling when he’s a little older (you know, so he won’t take off running down the aisle and get sucked into the pin picker upper).
And mini-golf. I’m awesome at any kind of golf! I ALWAYS have the highest score. :)
That means I win right?

what do you mean you suck! when you said, “look at the score” i don’t even know what that means–what’s a score in bowling–how much is a point worth!
so you now know someone sucks a liiiitttle bit more than you out here in chicago!

Children bowling is such a goof. And why do they always lie down?

Kickbowling? How fun! The mini golf too.
You know what’s so funny — both of my parents were bowlers too. My mother was especially good. And I really hate to bowl. But I think having bumpers for kids now is a great idea.

I suck at bowling too, even bowling on video games!
Mini golf is a whole other story. I usually rock the mini golf.

I love the beach. All seasons.
I have also been to that bowling alley but for the overall good of the Internets I will not say what year.
