Something tragic happened last week. No, not this, my tivo died. And then I had a 45 minute argument with DirectTV where I explained to them that if the equipment no longer works, and I have the protection plan, they need to send me new equipment. Makes sense, right? I thought so. It took 45 minutes and 5 people before someone agreed to send me a DVR. And yes, I said DVR, and not tivo, because DirectTV and tivo had some fight and they no longer work together.
I no longer have tivo. I have some stupid generic DVR thingie that totally bites. The menu makes no sense and is totally counter intuitive. It took me 15 minutes to figure out how to make it record something longer than the guide said it was going to be. Sometimes football games go long and Doug would have my head if he missed the end of the Steelers game. And don't even get me started on the non "season pass" season passes. And why can't I get it to to list my recorded shows alphabetically? Most recently recorded does not help me FIND IT.
I do have to admit I totally yelled at it for something that was not its fault. It didn't record Desperate Housewives. I know, I'm the only person left on the planet still watching Desperate Housewives. I figured it was because new sucky non tivo tivo didn't realize it could record two programs at once on different channels and then I realized I hadn't told it to record Desperate Housewives. Fine, user error. But the DVR still sucks. It has all these blue lights that glow and move around and light up. Doug calls it Kit the DVR.
I miss my tivo so much. I miss the little smiley tivo guy and the bong bong noise he makes when he starts.
Its like losing a family member I tell ya.

Trust me when I say to get rid of DirecTV and find out if you can get the AT&T U-verse (Advanced TV)… it's not quite TiVo, but you can record up to 4 channels at once (or 2 if they're both HD), and its just as intuitive as your friendly TiVo.
And your hubby would likely appreciate all the extra HD channels, too!

We sent that thing back and paid about $150 for a Hughs Directv TIVO receiver on ebay. The best thing about it is that it has a supped up hard drive so it can hold a ridiculous amount of shows. I’m pretty sure we still have stuff stored on that thing since before my son was born two years ago. (Not to mention the 60 some odd eps of Blue’s Clues and Sesame Street)
Yes, we paid extra for it but it was worth every penny to have my cute little tivo guy back.

uggg my tivo took a shit like a year and a half ago. i was sooooo mad. i still hate my dish dvr, i hated my cable dvr, i hate all dvr’s and i want my fucking tivo back. i would have bought a new tivo but they now say they don’t work with satelite. mother fuckers.

I miss my Tivo too. When we moved into our house last year, my hubby had a fight with DirecTV-they were such asses-so he moved to AT&T/Dish. The DVR is a pain in my ass, but at least it works, right?
And jeez, can I sit shiva with you, b/c since we moved into our temp. home, we HAVE NO SATELLITE!! I am missing ALL MY SHOWS! And since the DVR isn't hooked up to anything at my old house, it's NOT RECORDING! AAAAAAArg! What did we do b4 Tivo??

I have Dish Network and the DVR is nice. And I think it has some of the options you miss from TiVo. I was at a friend’s house and she had the DirecTV DVR and it confused me too.

You can get DH online — as long as your internet connection is somewhat quick, every episode is there, available for free! Its a wonderful thing…. I’ve watched the entire season of Gray’s Anatomy that way.

I have had Tivo since 2003. I love my Tivo like a child and protect it with my life. We now have AT&T Uverse and while it's not Tivo (no warm fuzzies), it's pretty damn awesome. You can record 4 things at once and watch what you've recorded from any TV in the house. So I called to cancel the Tivo and they didn't quite know what to do with me since who would ever cancel Tivo? But I did it, and then I mourned. So while I have a kick ass DVR now, it's still not the same. I feel your pain sister.

I have never used a TiVo or DVR, so I can’t speak to that. But I do still watch Desperate Housewives! I missed a big chunk somewhere along the line, but it’s so stupidly trashy that I can’t help but love it! And it leads right into Brothers and Sisters. Which I used to love but is quickly becoming stupidly trashy too. Oh well, that’s my brain, stupidly trashy!
