What Could Haven Been Quite an Embarrassing Moment

by Jodifur on June 3, 2008

As promised-

Thursday brought, finally, closing arguments of a four day trial. A trial that had become, for lack of a better term, a thorn in my side. I was tired, I was cranky, I was sick of the sound of my own voice. (I know, I'm a litigator, but really, enough talking already).

Judge was reconvening at 11 am to give us time to prepare our closings. I prepared the night before and took advantage of a late start and went to the gym. I was walking into the courthouse, and my heel snapped off the bottom of my shoe. A pair of shoes I was wearing for the FIRST TIME.

Cute huh?

Not without a heel! I momentarily thought about just breaking off the other heel and dealing, but nixed that. I tried to get the broken heel back on, but to no avail. (I have since learned chewing gum works. Wasn't that in a mentos commercial or something?)

I checked my watch, I had built in some time (and I'm compulsively early) to review my closing before the hearing, but I didn't realize I had built in 45 minutes. I only live 15 minutes away, 10 if I speed. So I turned around, went home, and changed my shoes. I made it back to court with 5 minutes to spare. And the judge took the bench 15 minutes late.

But, really, how much do I love zappos? When I called them to find out how I return the broken shoe, the woman on the phone was OUTRAGED this happened. She could not have been more apologetic. She immediately sent me another pair, sent a return label to return the shoe at no cost, and sent me at coupon for all of my troubles. I think she said she was sorry 20 times.

The world (especially my gym, and United, and Direct TV, and CVS) should take a lesson from zappos customer service.

I’m also a big fan of Zappos. I’m happy to hear you made it on time. I’m also compulsively early. And this is the exact. reason. why.
