A Rite of Passage

by Jodifur on May 23, 2008

When Doug got home last night I heard a noise, no, it was more like a medley.

I looked at him and said, "you hear that?"

"Yeah, what is it?"

"THE ICE CREAM MAN" we looked at each other and screamed in unison.

"Michael put your shoes, screw it Doug, just carry him," I yelled as I saw the truck rounding a corner. "Oh, no, I hope it stops."

Michael puts his hand out like Diane Ross and yells, "stop, ice cream truck."

And it did.

Doug and I had not dinner yet, so it was all Michael. We let him pick whatever he wanted.

And just to prove that marketing works….

Yep, that's a Dora Popsicle. Of everything he could have picked from the Good Humor truck, he picked the Dora Popsicle.

I managed to steer him away from Sponge Bob though.

I remember back when it was a Mickey Mouse popsicle that looked just like that. For me the ice cream truck picks were: Chocolate Eclair, Double Bubble (the one with the baseball mit and the nasty baseball jawbreaker gumball), or the Mickey Mouse.

While I can’t go running for the ice cream man due to lactose intolerance, I did hear it the other day (when it was cold out, too!) and it just brings back so much excitement and childhood memories. Glad you can still keep them alive with Michael!

Our ice cream man always drives through before dinner time. I wish he would come later. But… I think Zoe and I are planning to “spoil our appetites” with an ice cream truck chase very soon!

how funny that I read this today. last night after a stressful running of errands after work, the ice cream man came down the street (with that ANNOYING FREAKING TUNE) just as we were getting out of the car. I had some cash in my pocket for once, and so I walked Nicky down the driveway to get an ice cream for the first time ever.

Tom even came to get one. And the funny part is that Nicky has never liked ice cream. I tried getting him one of those strawberry shortcake bars with the crunch topping, thinking I could get him to nibble it. But once he felt that coldness he wasn’t interested at all.

But Tom and I enjoyed ours (since I ate Nicky’s for him) and it was right before dinner for us too. lol Guess I can save my money though since Nicky just won’t eat it.
