Well, If It’s My Opinion You Want

by Jodifur on April 29, 2008

I've gotten a fair number of emails asking for my opinion on the FLDS raid. Well, your wish has been granted. You can read it all here.
Sorry for directing you somewhere else. Due to some recent changes on DC Metro Moms, I'm no longer allowed to cross post. So, periodically, if I think I write something especially noteworthy, I'll draw your attention to it.
Feel free to comment here, if you prefer. Or ignore, whichever.

I think that was a really great post with a good luck at both sides of the issue. I think it’s easy to be extremely emotional about the whole topic and jus twant to rip all the kids out of there immediately without really looking at the situation.

I agree that this precedent that TX is trying to set is a dangerous one. It is my opinion that the government should stay out of people’s relationships whether they be with multiple people, people of the same sex or what have you and they should stay out of peoples religions.

Now that being said, the idea of children being forced into marriage and pregnancy is appalling and that is the issue that needs to be dealt with. But I don’t think attempting to deem an entire belief system as harmful to children is the way to do it. It opens the door to too many other possibilities.

Maybe someone will deem my lack of religion as harmful to my son. Who knows but as a person that isn’t a member of the mainstream religion in this country that isn’t a door I want opened.

Deal with the actual abuse and leave the religion and logistics of marriage between adults out of it.
