Mayberry asks, tell us about Foster and what are his "issues"?
Oh, wow, did you open up a can of worms.
But first, aren't they cute?
Foster was adopted from an abused dog rescue the day we got back from our honeymoon. He has issues, lots of issues. When we first got him he would sit in the corner and shake. He tore apart our house. He has seen a dog behaviorist (yes, that's a dog shrink), 3 times. He's been on paxil. We have gone through about 5 dog walkers, and he had a routine we went through before we left the house. I'm more relaxed about my child's schedule then I was about my dog's. He was the center of our lives before Michael arrived.
And now, he is largely ignored. We pretty much remember to walk and feed him, and every once in a while he gets pet.
Michael tortures this poor dog. He grabs him, pulls on him, hits him, throws things at him, etc., etc. He treats Foster like the sibling he is never going to have. And Foster takes it all, because Michael feeds him. Whatever he is eating goes to Foster. Foster gained 10 pounds the year Michael started solid foods, Michael gained 8.
Foster is a great dog. Very loving, very loyal. But he is just a tad high strung. I always lock him up when other children come over because while I don't think he would ever do anything, I do worry. And he just can't handle all the chaos.
Sometimes I think we should give him away. He would do better with a home that could dedicate more time to him. But really, no one is going to take this dog but us. And for better or worse, he is family. I wouldn't give my husband away, as much as I would like to sometimes.

They are so cute! Nothing wrong with having a dog with issues and loving him anyway…sometimes those are the best matches!

LOL, great post! We have a dog with issues too and I couldn’t give him up either.
And, I have a question: What is your greatest “surprise” joy of motherhood…you know, the thing nobody told you that you would enjoy but that you just love?

I have a high-strung pound pup too and she even looks a bit like Foster! And I feel guilty too, but eventually the kids did come around and starting giving her a lot of love and attention too (in addition to tons of food).

I have a very laid back golden retriever and I still put him in my room whenever we have kids over.

Foster sounds like a good boy at heart. I lock Domino up when people come over, too. Especially other people’s kids. I trust Domino wholeheartedly, but he can be weird and explaining how to deal with him is tiresome for everyone. I actually just wrote a post today about Domino’s troubles, in honor of his vet who has *sob* left us. (not like died, mind you, but moved on to another job).

Okay, I stumbled upon your blog, and let me just say helloooo!!! Love it! haha. I can relate to a whole lot of what you say. I too have a dog, he was my Valentine’s day gift 2 years go, in September our baby girl arrived. He’s been good with her, but he’s been very neglected as for as lovin’ goes, and my fiance wants me to give him away. I just cannot do it for the life of me, I off course love my daughter above all, but I feel like Romeo (yes I named him Romeo, corny, but hey he was a V-day gift) is part of the family…Keep up the wonderful posts, you may just have inspired me to give this blogging world a try
