This weekend I changed my closet over to the new season. You know, pack up the summer clothes, bring in the winter clothes, give away stuff you haven't worn in a year. (Of course, it was 80 degrees in DC the next day and I wished I had my summer clothes at my fingertips and not in under the bed bags).
I have a rule, if I haven't worn something all season it's time to donate it. Now that doesn't go for special occasion dresses or something I really really love and just didn't get around to wearing. But mostly, I have a small closet (and a small house), and can't hang on to stuff I'm not wearing.
In the back of my closet I found leather pants. Yes, you heard me right, leather pants. I bought these pants right after I lost 30 pounds. I loved these pants. I wore them all the time. (This was 2001, they were really in then). I haven't tried them on since Michael was born. Even though I weigh a few pounds less then before I got pregnant, my body is different. My hips spread. I know they won't fit. And it's not like I'd wear them again for goodness sake. I'm 32 as opposed to 26. I'm someones mother, not just someones wife. They are highly inappropriate.
Yet, I can't give them away. They remind me of a special time in my life. A time when I actually thought I was thin enough to buy something like this. A time when I felt comfortable enough with myself to wear LEATHER PANTS. I don't even recognize that person. Had I not had these hanging in my closet, I would never believe that I bought them.
Saying goodbye to the old

haha! I did the closet change-over a few weeks ago. I, too have TWO pairs of leather pants–one deep green and one black pair.
ICK! I also thought I was one hot momma walking around. Now, I wouldn’t be caught dead in leather pants. I’m not one for leather clothing anyway.

I have a leather miniskirt I am never parting with. Nevermind I have about 50 more lbs to lose before I fit in them. Its staying.

Wow. I have NEVER had the confidence to wear leather pants, skirt… Just a suede coat. Does that count?
You keep those pants!

Ok, of all things to come out of lurkdom on, it’s leather pants! Would you believe that I ALSO went through my closet this weekend (b/c the rack pulled itself out of the drywall!) and also came across my own black leather pants which I had to decide, along w/ 3 big garbage bags full of clothes what to do with. I -almost- fit into them, so I held on, just in case, but the funniest part was my 4 y.o. daughter asking if those were my ‘fireman pants’. I love that I’m not the only ‘hot momma’ who has leather pants still!
BTW, I *love* your blog and can totally relate!

I have a similarly-loved, similarly-purchased, and similarly-post-baby-never-to-be-worn-again pair of red velvet pants. I miss a little bit the person who wore those pants. But she’s gone now.

HAHAH Leather pants!!! Good for you! Just keep them, they’ll always remind you of good times and they won’t take up too much space. I’ve never owned a pair!

This will totally count. Way to be proactive, but get out of my head!

I find things I love but haven’t worn in forever, or that are just really REALLY out of style that I have a hard time throwing out or giving away too. And I put them aside to turn in to teddy bears, pillows or other craft things.
It’s a great idea right?
Now actually cutting them up and using the fabric, well I’m on a knitting tangent right now, but I’ll get back to my make teddy bears and stuff thing at some point and I have a bunch of “fabric” saved up for it!
