I have no idea what is up with Michael's naps. I can't figure out why sometimes he naps, and sometimes he doesn't. Nothing I do seems to be working. So, I'm going to give you the evidence and leave it up to you. Seriously, tell me what to do, tell me what I'm doing wrong.
At daycare 3 days a week, he consistently takes naps from 1-3. On a cot, in a bright room with 7 other kids.
Friday we went to Doug's office picnic, we got home at 2:00 pm. No nap, we try for two hours and give up. Periodically one of us goes in his room and tells him to go sleep. We figure he missed his "nap window", give up, go on a walk.
Saturday, we go to the wine festival. I say screw it, if he is not going to nap anyway, we might as well have fun. We get back at 3:00, he takes a two hour nap.
Sunday, I go to the gym from 10-12. He plays in the kids club. He goes down for a nap at 12:30, does not nap, chats in his crib until 2:30 when I am ready to give up, and falls asleep. Of course, we are late for my parents Father's Day barbecue.
Please, please help me. This is a kid who needs a nap. If he doesn't nap, he goes to bed at 6:30, and that is just so early, if it's a weeknight Doug doesn't even get to see him.
Plus, I'm seriously about to lose my mind.
Can anyone figure this out for me?

Okay, you know I don’t know much about you or Michael but it seems to me that the daycare would have a very predictable routine and he responds well to that. Without routine it sounds like he just crashes on the days when he’s most tired. Of course, predictable routine for him can equal a boring time for you but maybe give it a try for a couple of weeks to see if that makes a difference? Also, making the bed as boring as possible (i.e. no books) was an obvious thing I totally overlooked. Good luck! Sleep problems just suck.

I have no advice, but if you find something that works please let me know… Michael and Bella are on the same no nap schedule right now. She naps at daycare too!

I suggest really running him ragged. Sounds like on the days he is busy before naptime, he is conking out. Sully is the same way… If he didn’t sleep well one night, the next morning I take him on a LONG walk and then play at the playground or run around the house. Literally. I say “run around the house!” and we go crazy.. that usually works really well, lol.

I agree with what Laura said. I’ve also heard that when children go through developmental milestones that their eating and sleeping routines can be disrupted. This has definitely been true for both of my kids.

I have the same problem sometimes with Harry. I have seriously considered buying him one of those damn little cots that they use at daycare, just to get my point across to him.

I think it’s summer. Summer messes up little boys’ sleep schedules!
It has sure messed up my toddlers!

Maybe it is the age. Emmy all of the sudden the last week or so is becomming hit or miss with her naps. Drives me crazy. She really needed one today and didn’t take one. I finally gave in after her being in her room for an hour and half. I hope you find an answer.

Oh, naptime. Nonexistant half the week, widely varying the other half … I wish I knew what was up with this too.
I’m just catching up on my podcasts and listened to you on Motherhood Uncensored! Way to go!
